Changelog
A running record of improvements to the test, its keyboard diagrams, and its explanations.
27 September 2026 · Turkish, Spanish and German tests
- Added three interface languages across keyboard, mouse and gamepad tests, live states, reports, essential help and core information pages. Language choice remains separate from the physical keyboard layout.
- Localized titles, descriptions, real language alternates and tool structured data. Detailed guides retain their existing English/Russian versions; new-language hubs label links to English articles.
- Load only the selected translation catalog. Expanded long-label spacing and localized the mobile swipe hint. The [email protected] contact address is configured; the contact form remains a local draft builder. Public launch and advertising remain on hold.
27 September 2026 · Company and contact information
- Added the operator’s company details to Contact, with corresponding controller and operator information in Privacy and Terms. The registered name and address retain their original Turkish spelling.
- The designated contact is [email protected]. Email setup remains in progress; the contact form still prepares a local draft. Advertising remains inactive.
26 September 2026 · Footer and privacy information
- Grouped footer links into device tests, resources and privacy/legal information, with a separate language row.
- Added cookies and storage, advertising and terms pages in English and Russian. The privacy notice distinguishes local test data from future advertising. Advertising and consent integrations are not active.
26 September 2026 · Input reliability review
- Gamepad disconnection now clears connection identity even while paused. Reconnecting starts a fresh observation; removing one of several controllers no longer silently selects another. The controller selector is inactive while the test is paused.
- A five-second stick observation is interrupted if browser sampling stops for more than 250 milliseconds, rather than reporting an unobserved interval as complete. This is a sampling-continuity rule, not a hardware fault threshold.
- Keyboard input remains usable if the browser cannot read optional modifier state. Added 20 simulated input profiles covering keyboard layouts, mouse button roles and controller mappings. These checks verify software contracts; they are not tests on 20 physical devices or operating systems.
26 September 2026 · Visual identity and sharing previews
- Added the selected Key & Click logo with its tagline and round blue browser icon. Keyboard test colors retain their existing meanings.
- Added a site overview image for link previews, with descriptive image text in English and Russian. Preview rendering depends on the sharing platform and public access to the page.
26 September 2026 · Tools in the header, tests first
- Moved Keyboard, Mouse and Gamepad navigation out of the content and beside the logo. The global header keeps the same tool order across test, guide and information pages. The current tool is indicated visually and with aria-current.
- On narrower screens, the same tools are available from the existing navigation menu without an extra content row. Keywise, language and menu controls remain on the right. Opening navigation does not push the page down.
- Reduced duplicate introductory copy and excess vertical space in the mobile mouse test while keeping controls, the reference diagram and scroll feedback visible. Detailed Magic Mouse guidance remains below the instrument.
26 September 2026 · Clearer scrolling and Magic Mouse guidance
- Moved the opt-in scroll test above the test area. Four direction indicators and the latest received direction now appear inside the area, with marks for observed directions. Natural scrolling can reverse the relationship between finger movement and browser direction.
- Added source-backed Magic Mouse instructions covering clicks, touch-surface scrolling and the difference between physical double-clicks and Smart Zoom taps. Middle and side buttons are explicitly optional. System gestures are not scored as missing buttons.
- The pointer remains visible and free. Scroll capture only runs when explicitly enabled, inside the active test area; pausing or pressing Escape restores ordinary scrolling. Ctrl-modified zoom is preserved. If the browser refuses cancellation, a message explains that the page may move.
26 September 2026 · Key & Click: three input tools
- The project is now Key & Click, with the descriptor “Keyboard, Mouse & Gamepad Tests”. Existing keyboard behavior and saved preferences are preserved. The final visual identity is being designed separately; the preview keeps its interim mark.
- Added dedicated English and Russian mouse and gamepad pages with shared navigation, local test sessions and downloadable text reports. No new analytics, server processing or input uploads are introduced.
- Mouse testing distinguishes primary, middle, secondary and optional side-button roles, browser double-clicks, movement and scroll directions. Scroll capture is opt-in and limited to the test area. Touch input does not count as a physical mouse test.
- Gamepad testing shows browser-reported buttons and axes. Standard mappings get positional labels and paired stick diagrams; unmapped devices retain neutral indices. A five-second rest observation reports the largest visible center deviation without applying a pass/fail threshold or correcting the input. Focus loss and disconnection interrupt measurements.
- Automated state tests and simulated browser fixtures verify software behavior. They do not establish physical controller compatibility; a real-device model matrix remains a public-launch requirement.
26 September 2026 · Caps Lock status and optional live letters
Fixed uppercase labels remain the default. Keyboard settings now offers Live letters, saved on this device, to follow received letter case and Shift for the selected layout. Turkish dotted and dotless I remain distinct. The Caps Lock badge separately shows ON, OFF or ?; it never substitutes for the tested or held-key marks. ? means not confirmed, including before enough browser evidence is available. Focus loss clears stale modifier observations. Shortcuts, composed input and a mismatching letter use the fixed reference until matching input resumes. Number and symbol legends stay fixed. No lock state or typed characters are saved with this preference.
26 September 2026 · A more readable Fn label
The fn label on Mac keyboard views is larger, while keeping its upper-right position, the globe icon and the existing key dimensions.
26 September 2026 · Balanced language control
The language code and chevron are centered together inside the existing language button on desktop and mobile. Its width, height and neighboring controls stay in place.
26 September 2026 · A centered last-key label
The last-key label is now centered horizontally and vertically inside its fixed-size keycap, with balanced spacing around the deeper bottom border. Letters, numbers and modifier labels share the same alignment on desktop and mobile. The browser-reported code beside it remains unchanged.
26 September 2026 · Quicker helpful tips
Good to know tips now advance every six seconds instead of ten. The gentle transition, pause controls, hover and keyboard-focus pauses, and reduced-motion behavior are unchanged.
26 September 2026 · A clearer Fn / Globe key
Mac keyboard views now use an original Key & Click SVG globe in the lower-left corner of Fn, with the fn label in the upper-right. A single meridian and equator keep the small icon readable; spacing adapts to the key width. Observation marks use the free upper-left corner. Fn remains optional and depends on events reported by the browser.
26 September 2026 · Color with a clear purpose
Selected test modes and the latest-key card now use soft blue, with the live pressed count echoing the blue held-key state. Highlight untested uses a warm amber control and matching unobserved keys only when enabled. A magnifier changes to a checkmark when this view is active, and a hollow-circle marker accompanies each highlighted key. Optional Fn/Globe stays neutral. Green checked keys, blue held keys and neutral exclusions keep their meaning. Amber means review this observation, not hardware failure. Text and symbols accompany the colors.
26 September 2026 · Distinct history colors and a softer exit
Recent-key history now uses soft blue labels, visually separating past presses from green checked keys on the keyboard. Older entries fade into the background at the existing visible endpoint, including when the 24-entry limit is reached before the row is full. Short histories stay fully legible. The effect adapts to screen width without moving Clear, and reduced-motion preferences are preserved.
26 September 2026 · Clearer recent-key history action
Clear now appears as a compact navy button with a white eraser icon and label. Its right edge follows the keyboard’s inner key alignment across keyboard sizes, while staying visible on small screens. It clears only recent-key history and preserves test results.
26 September 2026 · Complete ISO Enter key edge
The inside corner of the L-shaped Enter key now has the same edge and lower-rim depth as the other keys. Its colors follow the checked, pressed and untested-highlight states.
26 September 2026 · Recognizable operating-system icons
Windows, macOS and Linux choices now include Windows, Apple and Tux SVG icons beside their names. Icon and label stay centered together; the selected icon follows the button color. Small-screen spacing keeps the choices on one line.
26 September 2026 · Easier-to-scan test results
The results are grouped into coverage, simultaneous-key counts and the latest key. The percentage sits beside its progress bar, the two counts have a divider, and Reset is visually separated from the latest observation. Subtle surfaces and consistent label alignment preserve every result while making the groups easier to distinguish on desktop and mobile. The live counts and latest-key details are vertically centered within their cards, keeping each heading and value together. Reset uses a centered SVG icon and text label with consistent spacing, avoiding font-baseline drift.
26 September 2026 · Centered status symbols
The status legend now uses equal 16-pixel square backgrounds and centered SVG symbols, removing font-baseline differences. The labels and test meanings are unchanged.
26 September 2026 · Quieter motion and compact navigation
Tips now transition with a short vertical fade and a visible position counter, inside a fixed-height area. Pause, focus, hover and reduced-motion behavior are preserved. Keywise has a book icon and sits beside the compact language and menu controls at the right edge. The typing-privacy reminder and lock icon now sit below the tester. The listening pause icon has more space from the button edge. On mobile, the listening control spans the same width as the keyboard card, with its label centered between equal-width icon columns. Desktop test-mode tabs have more horizontal room around their labels; mobile sizing is unchanged. Windows, macOS and Linux labels are centered within their equal-width buttons on desktop as well as mobile.
26 September 2026 · Clearer keyboard letters
Letter keys now use one larger uppercase label instead of showing both cases. Turkish dotted İ and dotless I remain distinct; German umlauts and Cyrillic letters use the same clear treatment. Main-keyboard numbers, shifted punctuation, special-key names and Mac modifier symbols are also larger, with separate sizing for longer labels and half-height arrows. Distinct shifted legends stay visible. The physical key layout, state colors and received character details are unchanged.
26 September 2026 · Keywise guides and clearer test controls
- Added Keywise with three illustrated guides in English and Russian: Mac F11 shortcuts, Fn/Fn Lock, and undetected keys with keyboard/mouse connection checks. Each source link explains what its document supports. Diagrams are original Key & Click work, not usage statistics.
- The left side below the keyboard now links to relevant guides through rotating tips. You can pause or advance them. Rotation stops for reading and keyboard focus, and reduced-motion preferences start with rotation paused.
- Highlight untested is preserved with a clearer explanation: unobserved does not mean faulty. We do not invent a received F11 event when macOS handles it.
- Windows, macOS and Linux now have separate choices. Mobile navigation uses a compact language code and a menu, and mobile mode names no longer overflow. Shared PC geometry is still a reference, not an identified device model.
25 September 2026 · Steadier layout and direct language switching
- Reserved the keyboard’s space before its keys load, kept large key sizes, and reduced movement caused by late font loading. Compact diagrams keep a consistent space below the keyboard.
- The language menu now opens over the page. Selecting a language navigates directly, without a second Apply action. Its position and width remain consistent between English and Russian, including on documentation pages.
- Reserved room for listening states, legends, counts and long key names. Mode-specific explanations and results sit below the main test so switching modes does not move its keyboard or summary.
- The menu supports keyboard focus and Escape; opening and closing transitions respect reduced-motion preferences. Language links retain the equivalent documentation page.
25 September 2026 · Prelaunch reliability review
- F5 and Shift+F5 no longer refresh the active, visible test when the browser allows cancellation. Inputs outside the visible test are not added to its counts.
- Mac Caps Lock is observed without treating a toggle as a continuously held key. Unknown physical codes do not inflate coverage. AltGraph and lock indicators describe browser reports rather than claiming hardware state.
- Conflicting keyboard-map suggestions are offered for explicit adoption instead of silently replacing the suggested language layout. Manual choices remain protected even when preference storage is unavailable.
- Improved secondary-text contrast, accessible key states and progress, and restrained spoken result updates. This review initially added an Apply action for language changes; the later layout review above replaced it with direct language links.
- Reports now have navigable headings and lists, a copy action with a manual fallback, and focus returns to the report button when closed.
- Added privacy, about and contact pages in both languages. The contact form currently prepares local drafts; email delivery remains a public-launch prerequisite.
- The same self-hosted fonts now use smaller WOFF2 files. Public pages are still prebuilt static HTML; no request-time rendering or analytics was added.
25 September 2026 · Two-language prototype
- Complete English and Russian pages, including test states, help, reports, and documentation. Each language has its own address and a visible language selector.
- Automatic suggestions use saved preferences, browser language, and available keyboard-map information. Explicit language addresses and manual keyboard choices take priority. No IP location service is active.
- Printed legends and physical geometry are separate. Added Russian JCUKEN, French legacy AZERTY, Brazilian ABNT2, and Japanese JIS references, plus laptop, 65%, and 75% views.
- Checked and held keys now have visible symbols as well as colors. An untested-key list and an explicit exclusion list explain the coverage count.
- Readable reports can be printed or downloaded as text; JSON remains available. Recent character history is not included.
- Added this changelog, the data corrections register, and a sources-and-method page in both languages.
Earlier prototype work · recorded 25 September 2026
Before this register was introduced, the prototype gained a prominent OS selector, recent-key history, compact first-screen results, a MacBook diagram, optional Fn reporting, dead-key handling, scroll protection during testing, and centered select arrows. This is a retrospective record, not a claim that each change shipped today.
